6:49 6:52 and about potential warning signs before
6:52 6:54 last night's shooting Sam Brock is in
6:54 6:56 the suspect's hometown Sam what have you
6:56 6:58 learned
6:58 7:01 today last law enforcement says a gun
7:01 7:03 was found in that white Subaru they are
7:03 7:04 looking right now to see if it's the
7:04 7:06 same weapon that was used in the mass
7:06 7:08 shooting as we are hearing from the card
7:08 7:09 family who says that they alerted
7:09 7:11 authorities that this is someone who
7:11 7:12 needed
7:12 7:15 help in Robert card's hometown of Bowen
7:15 7:18 Maine areawide shock it's mind-blowing
7:18 7:21 everything about it is it's unbelievable
7:21 7:22 I
7:22 7:24 mean why this is going on and why this
7:24 7:26 happened even as the suspect's own
7:26 7:28 family reveals chilling details about
7:28 7:30 the decades long Army reservist his
7:30 7:32 sister-in-law telling NBC news they
7:32 7:35 alerted police and military officials
7:35 7:36 that card was experiencing an acute
7:36 7:38 mental health episode in the months
7:38 7:40 before Wednesday's Massacre saying he'd
7:40 7:42 been fitted for high-powered hearing
7:42 7:44 aids a couple of months ago and was
7:44 7:45 picking up voices that he had never
7:45 7:48 heard his mind was twisting them around
7:48 7:50 the family concerned about the mental
7:50 7:51 state of someone who performs gun
7:51 7:54 training and was what we did meeting him
7:54 7:56 and the way that he showed us how to use
7:56 7:58 a weapon the man's smart he's really
7:58 8:00 smart and he's t IAL former Army
8:00 8:02 reservist Phil Gregory says he learned
8:02 8:05 how to use an M16 rifle from card they
8:05 8:06 weren't in the same unit but the
8:06 8:08 40-year-old left an impression on
8:08 8:10 Gregory he knows Warfare he understands
8:10 8:12 it he may not have ever been deployed
8:12 8:15 but he's smart he knows what to do I
8:15 8:16 think they need the soldiers to be
8:16 8:19 honest with you to be here I really do
8:19 8:20 the assault rifle believed to be the one
8:20 8:23 used to Massacre and MIM at least 30
8:23 8:26 people was purchased legally in 2023
8:26 8:27 according to two senior law enforcement
8:27 8:29 officials briefed on the matter
8:29 8:31 officials tell NBC News C threatened a
8:31 8:33 military base and was sent by his own
8:33 8:35 commanders to a mental health care
8:35 8:37 facility for 2 weeks of psychiatric
8:37 8:39 treatment in July how could someone that
8:39 8:41 fits that profile still be in possession
8:41 8:44 of semi-automatic weapons well I do
8:44 8:46 think that the statutes around firearms
8:46 8:47 and the possession of those are pretty
8:47 8:49 complex I know that we'll we will be
8:49 8:51 reviewing that information as we move
8:51 8:53 forward back in Bowden where C's family
8:53 8:56 has owned land for Generations childhood
8:56 8:58 neighbor Richard Gard is blindsided no
8:58 9:01 one would have seen this coming never
9:01 9:03 never expected anything like this to
9:03 9:07 happen here Sam Brock NBC News bow in
9:07 9:09 Maine and with a killer of the Run many
9:09 9:12 families spent hour after hour here on

9:30 9:33 I'm going to get a ring cam scary today
9:33 9:35 the streets of Maine's second biggest
9:35 9:38 city Leon eerily quiet gas stations
9:38 9:40 restaurants and pharmacies shuttering
9:40 9:43 their doors and dozens of schools even 3

9:48 9:51 College since last night I didn't think
9:51 9:53 this was going to happen my first year
9:53 9:55 of college it's just something that just
9:55 9:58 doesn't happen in Maine because it's so
9:58 10:01 safe a shock echoed by Trevor Brooks who
10:01 10:03 learned one of his customers is in
10:03 10:05 critical condition it is a close
10:05 10:08 Community you know um I would say we're
10:08 10:09 more like uh Three Degrees of Separation
10:09 10:12 rather than six around here Governor
10:12 10:15 Janet Mills who worked in Leon for years
10:15 10:17 called Wednesday's violence an assault
10:17 10:19 on Maine's Peace of Mind our small state
10:19 10:22 of just 1.3 million people has long been
10:22 10:25 known as one of the safest states in the
10:25 10:27 nation the mass shooting's death toll
10:27 10:29 approaches the number of homicides the
10:29 10:31 entire State typically sees throughout
10:31 10:34 the year a total of 29 homicides last
10:34 10:37 year 20 the year before on the Facebook

10:43 10:46 upside down for no good reason how can
10:46 10:48 we make any sense of this a
10:48 10:50 heart-wrenching question many here are
10:50 10:51 wrestling with tonight I'm going to go
10:51 10:53 home tonight and and be my kids and I'm

12:02 12:04 reinforced with wood the tunnels have
12:04 12:07 gotten more elaborate since then a maze
12:07 12:09 under Gaza where released hostages say

13:05 13:07 comes around as she's
13:07 13:10 clean she says her name is miral and

13:16 13:18 know a woman next to her asked why are
13:18 13:21 they doing this to us what did we
13:21 13:24 do Israel and President Biden accuse
13:24 13:26 Hamas of using civilians as human

13:35 13:37 tensions are fueling an alarming
13:37 13:40 increase in anti-Semitism while

14:28 14:29 Jews
14:29 14:32 it leads to anti-jewish sentiment around
14:32 14:35 the world and we've seen how

16:44 16:46 has no president this is one of the most
16:46 16:48 famous and most important resorts in
16:48 16:51 Mexico its recovery will be a huge
16:51 16:52 challenge for The Mexican government and
16:52 16:54 for president Andres Manuel Lopez
16:54 16:57 obrador for now we still don't really
16:57 16:59 understand the scope of the damage
16:59 17:02 lesser all right Julio thank you and
17:02 17:04 next on the road to a major deal in
17:04 17:06 Detroit between striking Auto Workers
17:06 17:10 and car makers what it means for
17:10 17:13 you good news on the US economy it grew
17:13 17:15 by an annual rate of nearly 5% in the
17:15 17:18 third quarter beating expectations and
17:18 17:21 as Maggie vasper reports there is Major
17:21 17:22 progress in something that's been a drag
17:22 17:25 on the economy the weeks long Auto
17:25 17:26 worker
17:26 17:30 strike tonight for Ford workers clean up
17:30 17:32 along the picket lines it was a bit of a
17:32 17:34 shock you know I I didn't expect Ford to
17:34 17:36 come to the table with a deal so soon
17:36 17:38 six weeks into their sweeping strike
17:38 17:40 against America's big three car
17:40 17:42 companies United Auto Workers last night
17:42 17:44 announcing their first tentative
17:44 17:47 agreement our standup strike has
17:47 17:50 delivered UAW leaders say the Ford deal
17:50 17:51 which still needs to be approved by
17:51 17:54 members would guarantee a 25% increase
17:54 17:56 in base pay reinstate cost of living
17:56 17:59 allowances and get rid of quote divisive
17:59 18:02 wage tiers Ford saying they're pleased
18:02 18:04 with the deal the wage increases the
18:04 18:07 cost of living allowance uh is huge but
18:07 18:09 other members aren't so sure what we
18:09 18:13 were shooting for was at least 30 to 35%
18:13 18:16 25% that's I don't know meanwhile
18:16 18:18 strikes at stellantis and GM plants grew
18:18 18:21 this week GM saying the stoppage has
18:21 18:23 already cost them $800 million in
18:23 18:25 pre-tax earnings in the wake of Ford's
18:25 18:28 breakthrough both companies confirm talk
18:28 18:30 continue I wouldn't be surprised that
18:30 18:34 eventually GM and stellantis ultimately
18:34 18:36 agree to contracts with a similar type
18:36 18:38 of pay raise for their workers tonight
18:38 18:40 President Biden who made history joining
18:40 18:42 the picket line last month calling the
18:42 18:44 Ford deal a testament to the power of
18:44 18:47 employers and employees coming together
18:47 18:48 Ford saying they want to get their close
18:48 18:51 to 20,000 workers back on the job soon
18:51 18:53 UAW leadership saying no date for the
18:53 18:56 ratification vote has been set
18:56 18:59 Lester Maggie Vasa thank you why what
18:59 19:01 happened here in Maine is hitting home

19:12 19:14 story finally one more American
19:14 19:16 Community is suffering through the
19:16 19:18 horrors of a mass shooting this one here
19:18 19:20 in Maine it's a place our Cynthia
19:20 19:23 mcfaden knows well though it's home to
19:23 19:25 bat's college lewison is not exactly a
19:25 19:28 quaint college town nor is it what lots
19:28 19:29 of people may think of as a
19:29 19:32 quintessential main town no lobster
19:32 19:36 boats or rocky Shore no major tourist
19:36 19:39 economy to speak of it does however have
19:39 19:42 its own natural beauty I grew up in
19:42 19:46 Auburn M the twin city of Leon La as
19:46 19:49 locals call them two towns one community
19:49 19:51 that sit across the Andersen River from
19:51 19:54 each other when I was growing up if the
19:54 19:56 wind was blowing just right you could
19:56 19:58 smell the river before you could see it
19:58 20:00 it was so polluted by Decades of cotton
20:00 20:04 and paper mills using it for power we
20:04 20:06 weren't famous for very much but all
20:06 20:08 eyes were on Leon in
20:08 20:12 1965 when Sunny Lon was knocked out by a
20:12 20:16 23-year-old M Ali Lewiston is a blue
20:16 20:18 collar and middle class family kind of
20:18 20:21 place people tend to their own business
20:21 20:23 there but rally around when someone's
20:23 20:26 hurting and tonight they're hurting my
20:26 20:28 main people are safe tonight Sheltering
20:28 20:31 in homes I remember from childhood but
20:31 20:33 too many of our friends and neighbors
20:33 20:36 will never go home again so tonight we
20:36 20:39 lead the news another gunman took the
20:39 20:42 lives of more Innocents in one more town
20:42 20:45 where we thought it could never happen

3:45 3:48 Rampage began active shooter incidents
3:48 3:52 all available units to L officials say
3:52 3:55 the first 911 call came in at 6:56 p.m.

5:17 5:20 suspect had been there before and all of

5:22 5:23 would come to shimis he would actually
5:23 5:26 come to shaming he he he'd been there
5:26 5:30 off and on Leroy says he waited 14 hours
5:30 5:33 to hear whether Joey was among the dead
5:33 5:34 you're all going through a lot of pain
5:34 5:38 right now it's it's awful that moment
5:38 5:45 when I got the call and said Jo's

5:48 5:51 brought me right back to my knees he
5:51 5:53 says Joey was a married father of two

5:56 5:59 the bar as manager of that club he he
5:59 6:01 loved that club enough and the people
6:01 6:03 enough that he would give his life and
6:03 6:05 that's what he did a State Trooper told

6:45 6:47 yeah and we're learning new details
6:47 6:49 about the suspect's background with guns

10:27 10:29 approaches the number of homicides the

10:34 10:37 year 20 the year before on the Facebook

10:43 10:46 upside down for no good reason how can
10:46 10:48 we make any sense of this a
10:48 10:50 heart-wrenching question many here are
10:50 10:51 wrestling with tonight I'm going to go
10:51 10:53 home tonight and and be my kids and I'm
10:53 10:55 not going to watch the news thinking wow

11:59 12:02 a lot of this tunnel remains it's
12:02 12:04 reinforced with wood the tunnels have
12:04 12:07 gotten more elaborate since then a maze

14:28 14:29 Jews
14:29 14:32 it leads to anti-jewish sentiment around
14:32 14:35 the world and we've seen how
14:35 14:38 anti-Semitism has been normalized here
14:38 14:41 in the United States Palestinian groups
14:41 14:43 also reporting incidents against them

16:17 16:20 with mud and debris the exterior of this

19:01 19:03 for so many coming up one of my
19:03 19:05 colleagues with that
19:05 19:12 [Music]
