0:28 0:31 a refugee camp accusing Hamas of hiding
0:31 0:34 a terrorist Command Center among the

1:02 1:05 tracking it the Delta pilot charged with
1:05 1:07 pulling a gun in the cockpit why
1:07 1:08 authorities say he threatened to shoot
1:08 1:11 the captain mid-flight and the marathon
1:11 1:15 man running on The Road to
1:15 1:18 Redemption this is NBC Nightly News with
1:18 1:20 Lester
1:20 1:22 Holt good evening and welcome a
1:22 1:24 diplomatic breakthrough has cracked open
1:24 1:26 the door that has left foreigners
1:26 1:28 including Americans trapped inside War
1:28 1:30 tour in Gaza to United Americans are
1:30 1:32 among a handful of people who were able
1:32 1:35 to leave Gaza after Egypt partially
1:35 1:38 opened a key border crossing Gaza has
1:38 1:40 become an increasingly dangerous place
1:40 1:42 for foreigners and residents since
1:42 1:45 Israel launched its assault on Hamas
1:45 1:46 tonight with Israeli troops on the
1:46 1:49 ground there taking their own casualties
1:49 1:51 a new Communications outage is making
1:51 1:54 life even more difficult Israel is
1:54 1:56 facing condemnation for yesterday's
1:56 1:58 deadly strike on a refugee camp where
1:58 2:01 Israel says a SC senior Hamas leader was
2:01 2:03 killed but Palestinian civilians
2:03 2:06 reported among the casualties President
2:06 2:07 Biden pledging the US is working
2:07 2:10 non-stop to get Americans out of Gaza as
2:10 2:14 soon and as safely as possible while the
2:14 2:16 war continues to fuel the Deep divide
2:16 2:18 here at home from alleged hate crimes to
2:18 2:21 divisive Behavior at college campuses
2:21 2:24 Raph Sanchez leads our
2:24 2:27 coverage tonight for the first time in 3
2:27 2:29 weeks of War civilians making their way
2:29 2:32 out of Gaza to the safety of
2:32 2:34 Egypt it's a diplomatic breakthrough
2:34 2:37 after long negotiations but today only
2:37 2:40 around 300 lucky foreigners found their
2:40 2:42 names on the list to pass through the
2:42 2:45 Rafa crossa among them a handful of
2:45 2:47 Americans including 71-year-old Aid
2:47 2:50 worker Ramona akamara who came to Gaza
2:50 2:53 to make prosthetic limbs for children we
2:53 2:56 spoke to her niece tonight we are just
2:56 2:58 so relieved and grateful that she is
2:58 3:00 finally on her way to safety hundreds
3:00 3:02 more Americans are still trapped the US
3:02 3:05 says Hamas has been blocking them we'll
3:05 3:07 see more of this process going on in the
3:07 3:10 coming days working nonstop to get
3:10 3:12 Americans out of Gaza as soon and as
3:12 3:15 safely as possible Egypt is not
3:15 3:17 accepting refugees from Gaza so for
3:17 3:20 Palestinians without a foreign passport
3:20 3:22 the only ticket out of the strip is a
3:22 3:24 grievous
3:24 3:26 injury 8-year-old Salam was wounded by
3:26 3:29 an Israeli strike his family tells us
3:29 3:32 his father and Grandparents were killed
3:32 3:34 he's one of around 70 patients evacuated
3:34 3:37 today for urgent medical care in
3:37 3:40 Egypt earlier Israel bombs the jabalia
3:40 3:43 refugee camp for the second time in 2
3:43 3:46 days today Israel says it hit a Hamas
3:46 3:48 Command Center deliberately hidden under
3:48 3:50 civilian homes our cameras were at a
3:50 3:53 nearby hospital as the wounded including
3:53 3:56 children were rushed
3:56 3:59 in and Israeli ground troops pushing
3:59 4:01 deeper into into the strip closing in
4:01 4:03 around Gaza City in their effort to
4:03 4:05 crush Hamas the military says these
4:05 4:08 weapons were used in hamas's October 7th
4:08 4:11 Massacre where 14400 Israelis were
4:11 4:14 killed assault rifles machine guns
4:14 4:15 rocket propelled grenades like this this
4:15 4:17 is just a fraction of the Firepower
4:17 4:20 Hamas has inside
4:20 4:23 Gaza Israel's prime minister repeating
4:23 4:26 his pledge no ceasefire until Hamas is
4:26 4:28 defeated but as the death toll in Gaza
4:28 4:31 Rises so is international pressure on
4:31 4:33 Israel dozens of Aid trucks did cross
4:33 4:36 into Gaza today but nowhere near enough
4:36 4:38 and Israel still blocking fuel
4:38 4:40 deliveries saying the gas will be stolen
4:40 4:43 by Hamas and with every hour fears for
4:43 4:45 the hostages growing with Hamas still
4:45 4:48 refusing to release them in New York
4:48 4:51 Holocaust Survivors holding photos of
4:51 4:55 the hostages so I feel very very
4:55 4:58 attached to all those innocent people
4:58 5:00 who are being
5:00 5:02 captured survivors of the Jewish
5:02 5:04 people's Darkest Hour sending strength
5:04 5:08 to those being held in darkness in Gaza
5:08 5:10 Raph is joining us now Raph do we know
5:10 5:12 how many American citizens are still
5:12 5:14 trapped in
5:14 5:17 Gaza Lester they're around 400 US
5:17 5:18 citizens but when you include their
5:18 5:20 family members that's around a thousand
5:20 5:22 people in total we do expect the Rafa
5:22 5:24 Crossing to be open again tomorrow
5:24 5:27 Lester ra Sanchez tonight thank you the
5:27 5:28 Attorney General said today there's been
5:28 5:30 a significant increase in threats
5:30 5:33 against Jewish and Muslim communities
5:33 5:34 and college campuses are seeing it from
5:34 5:38 coast to coast there's Miguel
5:38 5:41 eler not far from Cornell University
5:41 5:43 today 21-year-old student Patrick Dy
5:43 5:46 appeared in federal court facing charges
5:46 5:47 that he threatened to kill or injure
5:47 5:51 Jewish students us officials warn of a
5:51 5:52 significant increase in threats against
5:52 5:56 Jewish and Muslim communities Nationwide
5:56 5:59 for our democracy to function we must
5:59 6:01 all be protected in our right to live
6:01 6:03 free from hate fuel violence and the
6:03 6:06 threat of violence it comes amid growing
6:06 6:08 concern over violence and safety at
6:08 6:11 universities across the country it's
6:11 6:13 heartbreaking I don't feel safe on
6:13 6:16 campus known for its history rooted in
6:16 6:18 demonstration tonight its leadership at
6:18 6:21 the University of California making
6:21 6:23 headlines after the university President
6:23 6:26 issued a statement calling the Hamas
6:26 6:28 attack an act of terrorism a group of
6:28 6:31 300 faculty members demanded school
6:31 6:34 officials retract its charges of
6:34 6:36 terrorism to uplift the Palestinian
6:36 6:39 Freedom struggle but Monday UC Regent
6:39 6:41 Jay serz who's also Vice chairman of
6:41 6:44 United talent agency called the counter
6:44 6:47 letter appalling and repugnant adding it
6:47 6:49 seeks to legitimize and defend the
6:49 6:52 horrific savagery of the Hamas Massacre
6:52 6:54 I think that we need to start treating
6:54 6:57 other people as human beings instead of
6:57 6:59 labels like Israeli and Palestinian more
6:59 7:02 than just a volatile flasho on campus
7:02 7:04 hate crimes against Jews and Muslims are
7:04 7:08 both on the rise Nationwide in Las Vegas
7:08 7:09 a man is charged with leaving a series
7:09 7:12 of anti-Semitic threats for Senator
7:12 7:14 Jackie Rosen no one has the right to
7:14 7:17 intimidate to threaten in site violence
7:17 7:19 in the leadership at all of our
7:19 7:22 universities need to take that stance
7:22 7:25 strongly against all of it whether it's
7:25 7:28 anti-Semitism racism islamophobia or
7:28 7:30 other forms of of hate tonight a war
7:30 7:34 overseas and clashes here at home Miguel
7:34 7:37 aler NBC News Los Angeles here in New
7:37 7:40 York the first of Donald Trump's adult
7:40 7:42 children took the witness stand today in
7:42 7:43 the Civil fraud trial against the
7:43 7:45 Republican front runner senior legal
7:45 7:48 correspondent Laura Jared has that
7:48 7:50 story tonight the former president's
7:50 7:53 eldest son inside a Manhattan courtroom
7:53 7:55 Donald Trump Jr the first of his
7:55 7:59 siblings to testify in a $250 million
7:59 8:01 civil fraud lawsuit against the family's
8:01 8:03 real estate business New York's attorney
8:03 8:05 general accusing the Republican front
8:05 8:08 runner his sons and his company of
8:08 8:10 inflating assets to get better terms on
8:10 8:13 loans and insurance pointing to Don Jr's
8:13 8:15 signature on documents certifying the
8:15 8:17 accuracy of the company's financial
8:17 8:20 statements which include assets like Mr
8:20 8:22 Trump's apartment in Manhattan listed as
8:22 8:25 30,000 square ft when it's actually a
8:25 8:28 third of that size today he was pressed
8:28 8:30 by the state about his role as Executive
8:30 8:32 Vice President of the Trump organization
8:32 8:35 Don Jr saying he relied on outside
8:35 8:37 accountants who prepared the financial
8:37 8:39 statements he's blasted the suit from
8:39 8:41 the Democratic attorney general and the
8:41 8:44 judge also a Democrat as a partisan
8:44 8:47 Kangaroo Court it doesn't matter what
8:47 8:48 general practices in business would be
8:48 8:50 it doesn't matter they have a narrative
8:50 8:51 they have an end goal and they'll do
8:51 8:53 whatever it takes to get there the judge
8:53 8:55 has already ruled in the state's favor
8:55 8:57 on the central fraud claim much of the
8:57 8:59 trial is to determine what if any
8:59 9:01 punishment should be handed down
9:01 9:03 meanwhile the former president has said
9:03 9:05 he's done nothing wrong and again
9:05 9:07 slamming the judge posting quote leave
9:07 9:10 my children alone so Laura Don Jr will
9:10 9:12 be back on the witness stand tomorrow
9:12 9:13 meantime you're tracking a pretty big
9:13 9:15 headline in another legal case involving
9:15 9:17 the former president that's right Lester
9:17 9:19 a federal judge in Florida today
9:19 9:21 signaled she might push the trial date
9:21 9:22 in the case where he's been accused of
9:22 9:25 hoarding those classified documents now
9:25 9:26 remember the case is currently set to
9:26 9:29 begin in May of next year but the judge
9:29 9:31 noted Mr Trump also faces a separate
9:31 9:33 trial in March in that election
9:33 9:35 interference case that one in Washington
9:35 9:37 DC today Mr Trump's defense lawyer
9:37 9:40 involved in both of these cases told the
9:40 9:42 judge his team simply needs more time to
9:42 9:43 prepare Lester all right Laura Jared
9:43 9:45 thank you in Minnesota today President
9:45 9:48 Biden kicked off a new campaign to reach
9:48 9:50 rural voters as he struggles to sell his
9:50 9:52 economic message ahead of next year's
9:52 9:56 election Gabe Gutierrez is there at his
9:56 9:58 Iowa farm Dave Struthers has been
9:58 10:01 producing por for decades but these last
10:01 10:04 few years he says have been a struggle
10:04 10:07 we've had uh high costs and our product
10:07 10:12 we produce is not uh risen in value
10:12 10:14 correspondingly inflation has hit rural
10:14 10:16 households harder than the rest of the
10:16 10:18 country according to researchers at Iowa
10:18 10:20 State University rural households spent
10:20 10:21 an extra
10:21 10:24 $5500 last year we're the people that
10:24 10:27 produce the food and manufacture a lot
10:27 10:29 of the goods um we seem to be ignored
10:29 10:30 just because we don't have the
10:30 10:32 population meanwhile researchers at
10:32 10:35 Cornell estimate that 94% of the
10:35 10:37 nation's job growth has happened in
10:37 10:40 urban counties since the year 2000 so
10:40 10:42 today here in Minnesota President Biden
10:42 10:45 literally barnstorming kicking off a two
10:45 10:48 we Blitz of Rural America it's about
10:48 10:51 restoring pride in the rural to rural
10:51 10:53 communities that have been left behind
10:53 10:56 for far too long the administration
10:56 10:58 touting more than5 billion in federal
10:58 11:00 funding to help create jobs connect more
11:00 11:03 rural areas to broadband as well as
11:03 11:05 promote farming techniques that fight
11:05 11:07 climate change the new push is urgent
11:07 11:09 and could be critical to Democrats in
11:09 11:12 2024 despite what everyone is saying the
11:12 11:14 economy has been humming along pretty
11:14 11:17 well Dairy Farmers Steven and jod Olsen
11:17 11:19 Reed think the president is on the right
11:19 11:22 track I don't blame Biden for inflation
11:22 11:25 I I blame corporate greed but former
11:25 11:27 president Trump has kept widening his
11:27 11:29 lead among rural voters and according to
11:29 11:33 Pew research Republicans got 69% of the
11:33 11:36 rural vote in the 2022 midterms Lester
11:36 11:38 all right Gabe Gutierrez thank you a
11:38 11:40 blast of winter weather today in the
11:40 11:41 eastern half of the country brought
11:41 11:44 early snow to part to the Midwest and
11:44 11:46 temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below
11:46 11:49 average 65 million people under Frost or
11:49 11:51 freeze alerts tonight through tomorrow
11:51 11:54 morning from Southern New England to the
11:54 11:57 Deep South including parts of Texas
11:57 11:58 tonight yet another confrontation of the
11:58 12:01 cockpit being revealed a Delta co-pilot
12:01 12:04 facing charges of pulling a gun and
12:04 12:05 threatening to shoot the captain during
12:05 12:08 an argument There's Tom
12:08 12:10 Costello it happened on a Delta Airlines
12:10 12:13 flight last year now a Federal grand
12:13 12:15 jury has indicted first officer Jonathan
12:15 12:17 dun with using a dangerous weapon to
12:17 12:19 assault and intimidate the captain
12:19 12:21 telling the captain he'd be shot
12:21 12:24 multiple times if he diverted the flight
12:24 12:26 due to a passengers medical event Dunn
12:26 12:29 was trained and certified to carry a gun
12:29 12:32 as a TSA Flight Deck officer NBC News
12:32 12:34 Aviation analyst Captain John Cox was
12:34 12:38 also certified the people that were
12:38 12:41 really heavily into the I'm G to save
12:41 12:44 the world and I've got a gun those
12:44 12:46 people didn't make it through NBC has
12:46 12:49 been unable to reach D Delta says he no
12:49 12:51 longer works for the airline the
12:51 12:52 indictment comes after an off-duty
12:52 12:55 Alaska Airlines pilot riding in a
12:55 12:57 cockpit jump seat last week allegedly
12:57 12:59 tried to shut down the engine on a
12:59 13:01 passenger plane Joseph Emerson has
13:01 13:03 pleaded not guilty to 83 attempted
13:03 13:05 murder counts he allegedly claimed he
13:05 13:08 was in a mental health crisis and had
13:08 13:10 consumed psychedelic mushrooms 2 days
13:10 13:13 before the flight he had no intention to
13:13 13:16 harm himself or anybody on the airplane
13:16 13:19 when he acted the challenge for the FAA
13:19 13:21 and Airlines screening Pilots for signs
13:21 13:24 of serious mental illness or aggression
13:24 13:26 it's really hard to predict violence
13:26 13:29 even if somebody's experiencing health
13:29 13:31 symptoms both Pilots face federal
13:31 13:33 charges of interfering with the flight
13:33 13:35 crew a felony that carries up to 20
13:35 13:38 years in prison Lester all right Tom
13:38 13:40 thanks in 60 seconds the Blockbuster
13:40 13:42 billion dooll verdict that could shake
13:42 13:45 up the way we buy and sell
13:45 13:48 homes back now with the big jury verdict
13:48 13:50 rocking the world of real estate the
13:50 13:52 ruling could change the way Americans
13:52 13:54 buy and sell their homes our senior
13:54 13:56 business correspondent Christine Romans
13:56 13:59 has more in our series price St
13:59 14:02 out a big win for homeowners as a
14:02 14:04 federal jury in Kansas City found a
14:04 14:06 system rigged against them the jury's
14:06 14:08 verdict siding with plaintiffs and
14:08 14:10 against the National Association of
14:10 14:13 Realtors along with two brokerage firms
14:13 14:15 the case argued that forcing home
14:15 14:17 sellers to pay the commission for the
14:17 14:19 buyer's broker is an anti-competitive
14:19 14:22 restraint and requires those sellers to
14:22 14:25 pay an inflated amount Jared brigh was a
14:25 14:27 plaintiff in the class action suit he
14:27 14:29 understood he'd need to pay a sellers
14:29 14:32 commission but the buyer agent to
14:32 14:35 someone that I had never met I will
14:35 14:38 never meet and did nothing for me the
14:38 14:40 jury awarded plaintiffs nearly $1.8
14:40 14:42 billion in a case led by attorney
14:42 14:44 Michael katchmark it's the only system
14:44 14:46 it's the only industry in the United
14:46 14:48 States where two competitors get
14:48 14:50 together they set the compensation and
14:50 14:52 they split it here's how it works when
14:52 14:54 you sell your home you agree to pay a
14:54 14:57 commission to your agent and the buyer's
14:57 15:00 agent usually 6% % of the home price but
15:00 15:02 this case argued that the buyer should
15:02 15:04 pay their own agent and be able to
15:04 15:06 negotiate that fee the National
15:06 15:08 Association of Realtors says it will
15:08 15:11 appeal the verdict and that its rules
15:11 15:12 prioritize consumers support
15:12 15:15 market-driven pricing and promote
15:15 15:17 business competition but with housing
15:17 15:19 now the least affordable it's been in a
15:19 15:21 generation the industry is facing
15:21 15:24 increased scrutiny and Christine joining
15:24 15:26 me now what does this mean now for how
15:26 15:28 we buy and sell homes Lester we're
15:28 15:30 talking about an awful lot of money here
15:30 15:33 the seller of a $300,000 home is paying
15:33 15:36 $18,000 in commissions that won't change
15:36 15:38 overnight but the very way real estate
15:38 15:40 agents make their money earn their money
15:40 15:42 and even whether or not sellers will
15:42 15:44 continue to pay those commissions is now
15:44 15:46 in question all right Christine Roman
15:46 15:47 good to have you here thanks so much
15:47 15:49 coming up how a rise in fear over
15:49 15:51 anti-Semitism is prompting some in the
15:51 15:54 Jewish Community to arm themselves for
15:54 15:57 the first
15:57 16:01 time as incidents of anti-Semitism rise
16:01 16:03 fears of violence are hitting home in
16:03 16:05 the US for some in the Jewish Community
16:05 16:08 the concern for safety has prompted them
16:08 16:11 to rethink whether to own a gun our Sam
16:11 16:13 Brock
16:13 16:15 reports Let It
16:15 16:18 Go between the sounds of gunfire right
16:18 16:20 go ahead whenever you're ready and the
16:20 16:22 gasps of what they
16:22 16:25 produce so I got pretty close here in
16:25 16:27 South Florida some members of the Jewish
16:27 16:28 Community arming themselves was
16:28 16:30 following hamas's brutal attack on
16:30 16:33 October 7th and the anti-semitic threats
16:33 16:35 that have followed graap inside of the
16:35 16:38 neighborhood which says that says U free
16:38 16:41 Gaza kill all the Jews and I'm I'm a
16:41 16:45 Jewish and I have uh two little kids and
16:45 16:47 I just want to be able to defend myself
16:47 16:50 Sahar caner one of many Jewish Mothers
16:50 16:52 we met now trying out Firearms after
16:52 16:55 seeing violent rhetoric creep onto their
16:55 16:57 streets one mom Michelle worries about
16:57 17:00 her kids walking home from school who
17:00 17:01 isn't upset over everything that's
17:01 17:04 happening and and any innocent life is
17:04 17:07 that's being destroyed is horrific but
17:07 17:10 screaming for the death my death because
17:10 17:13 I'm a Jew a Jew no this firearm
17:13 17:15 instruction class in the Miami area is
17:15 17:17 led by gun store owner David Kowalski
17:17 17:19 it's one of those things that you don't
17:19 17:21 want to need and not have how many of
17:21 17:23 you never thought you would ever
17:23 17:26 personally own or use a gun the class
17:26 17:28 featuring a profile of people you might
17:28 17:31 not expect to find grandmothers and guns
17:31 17:34 not always an obvious pairing I'm like
17:34 17:36 having an outof Body Experience sitting
17:36 17:39 here but as Israel's campaign in Gaza
17:39 17:41 grows more deadly so too does the fear
17:41 17:44 of backlash country every single town is
17:44 17:46 demonstrating against our people we feel
17:46 17:48 terrified it's going to be loud it's
17:48 17:50 going to go Kowalski says his classes
17:50 17:52 have gone from one or two a week to one
17:52 17:55 or two a day after the Hamas Invasion
17:55 17:57 did you see an immediate change at your
17:57 17:59 business absolutely
17:59 18:01 um there was definitely an uptick in
18:01 18:03 Jewish Americans wanting to learn how to
18:03 18:04 protect themselves and their families
18:04 18:06 for many of the Firearms newcomers we
18:06 18:11 met there are still reservations no
18:11 18:15 scary very good scary but for others
18:15 18:18 there is no longer a choice people who
18:18 18:20 can't respect human life how can you
18:20 18:21 think that they're going to care about
18:21 18:24 yours a concern that's growing in Jewish
18:24 18:27 communities all over the country Sam
18:27 18:30 Brock NBC News South Florida and next
