1:02 1:04 my son a Breaking Point after a
1:04 1:07 monthlong standoff over the future of
1:07 1:09 hundreds of US military officials an
1:09 1:11 object object and with that object the

1:14 1:18 own party you've just denied this lady a

1:21 1:23 story of a pen with history and the
1:23 1:26 ability to change lives coming here you
1:26 1:29 see what people are capable of and I saw

3:45 3:47 charges severed from this case and a
3:47 3:50 trial to begin in March of next year
3:50 3:52 Nora a breakthrough in the desperate
3:52 3:55 effort to evacuate Americans out of Gaza
3:55 3:57 at least 74 Americans fleeing today
3:57 3:59 making their way out of the war zone and
3:59 4:02 into safety in Egypt the Breakthrough
4:02 4:04 comes with a major new battle underway
4:04 4:06 tonight in Northern Gaza the Israeli
4:06 4:08 Army launching heavy attacks from land
4:08 4:11 sea and air prime minister Netanyahu
4:11 4:13 saying quote we are at the height of the
4:13 4:16 battle Israel's military is facing off
4:16 4:18 with Hamas militants in close combat
4:18 4:21 battles as they Advance deeper into Gaza
4:21 4:23 City and for the third day in a row

4:26 4:28 refugee camp as it targets members of
4:28 4:30 Hamas more than one 100 trucks with Aid
4:30 4:32 made their way into Gaza today that's a
4:32 4:35 big number as the humanitarian crisis
4:35 4:37 there worsens Secretary of State Anthony
4:37 4:39 blinkin is on his way to Israel where
4:39 4:41 the White House says he will urge
4:41 4:43 leaders for a pause in the fighting to
4:43 4:45 allow Aid to be distributed and for the
4:45 4:48 possible release of hostages and there's
4:48 4:51 breaking news the house passed a $14
4:51 4:54 billion Aid package for Israel but
4:54 4:57 without funding for Ukraine we have Team
4:57 4:58 coverage tonight from the Middle East to
4:58 5:00 Washington and CBS is Charlie will
5:00 5:05 start us off from Tel Aviv good evening
5:05 5:08 Charlie good evening nor the Israeli
5:08 5:10 Defense Forces say face- Toof face
5:10 5:13 fighting is underway between Israeli
5:13 5:15 soldiers and Hamas militants as troops
5:15 5:18 push deeper into densely populated Gaza
5:18 5:20 City while further south there's a
5:20 5:22 desperate rush for those trying to
5:22 5:25 escape the war
5:25 5:28 zone by the thousands they gathered at
5:28 5:31 the gate today dar to hope this time
5:31 5:33 they'd make it out of Gaza like Susan
5:33 5:37 beso a Palestinian American born in Gaza
5:37 5:40 who moved to Utah I'm leaving Gaza today
5:40 5:42 or God knows if I'm going to be able to
5:42 5:44 leave for the fifth time I come to the
5:44 5:48 Border but I'm leaving a huge part of me
5:48 5:51 here in all the people that I love and
5:51 5:53 care about nobody is safe in Gaza if
5:53 5:56 you're in schools if you're in hospitals
5:56 5:59 if you're underground up on the ground
5:59 6:01 you're never safe but even a few feet
6:01 6:04 from the safety of Egypt one last
6:04 6:06 reminder of the war the internet has
6:06 6:10 been cut off for the past
6:10 6:13 three hours later she made it safely
6:13 6:17 over this is one of the
6:17 6:20 toughest days of my life to be leaving
6:20 6:24 my family my friends and my
6:24 6:25 [Music]
6:25 6:29 hometown like this it's just unbearable
6:29 6:33 it's devastating and it's really hard
6:33 6:35 back in the embattled strip of land they
6:35 6:37 managed to flee Israeli air strikes
6:37 6:39 pounded the area around the javala
6:39 6:42 refugee camp north of Gaza City for the
6:42 6:45 third day in a row they even hit the
6:45 6:48 school cries a young woman referring to
6:48 6:50 a un run school where displaced
6:50 6:53 residents had sought shelter but being a
6:53 6:56 school provided no more protection than
6:56 6:58 the concrete pillars that collapsed
6:58 7:00 around them
7:00 7:04 a father shouts find my
7:04 7:08 son a terrified child whells we did
7:08 7:10 nothing wrong we did nothing
7:10 7:13 wrong the UN said today four of their
7:13 7:15 schools turned shelters were hit in the
7:15 7:19 last 24 hours Israeli Defense Forces
7:19 7:21 released new video as the top Commander
7:21 7:24 claimed forces are encircling Gaza City
7:24 7:27 on three sides but even as they clear
7:27 7:29 the battlefield of Hamas mil
7:29 7:33 overground dangers still lurk below what
7:33 7:35 first began two decades ago as a
7:35 7:37 Labyrinth of tunnels to move smuggled
7:37 7:39 Goods around has since become an
7:39 7:41 advanced underground Network known as
7:41 7:44 the Gaza metro housing command and
7:44 7:47 control centers and weapon
7:47 7:49 storage Hamas released this new video
7:49 7:51 set to show one of its militants
7:51 7:54 emerging from a tunnel and planting
7:54 7:56 explosives on an Israeli
7:56 7:59 tank the Skies over Gaza lit up to
7:59 8:02 tonight in another series of air strikes
8:02 8:04 clouds of Thick Smoke Rising as
8:04 8:07 explosions ring out in the distance A
8:07 8:10 Renewed bombardment from the air even as
8:10 8:13 Israeli troops fight it out on the
8:13 8:16 ground and even as that fighting rages
8:16 8:18 in Gaza tonight there's been an
8:18 8:20 escalation and attacks from Iranian
8:20 8:22 backed Hezbollah in the north the
8:22 8:24 militant group's leader is scheduled to
8:24 8:26 speak tomorrow for the first time since
8:26 8:28 fighting in Gaza began and what might
8:28 8:30 indicate whether that group is about to
8:30 8:34 launch a wider War nor on a second front
8:34 8:35 all right Charlie Daga thank you for
8:35 8:37 that update there's breaking news now on
8:37 8:39 Capitol Hill as House Republicans have
8:39 8:41 passed an emergency funding bill for
8:41 8:43 Israel tonight providing $4 billion in
8:43 8:46 aid but it does face opposition from the
8:46 8:48 White House and Senate leaders who also
8:48 8:50 wanted billions in aid for Ukraine in
8:50 8:52 this bill cbs's Nancy ctis is at the
8:52 8:54 White House where the president is under
8:54 8:57 pressure as the humanitarian crisis in
8:57 8:59 Gaza worsens sec Secretary of State
8:59 9:02 Anthony blinkin left Washington for his
9:02 9:05 third visit to Israel in 3 weeks before
9:05 9:07 departing he said his main focus would
9:07 9:11 be on ways to better protect Palestinian
9:11 9:14 civilians how Israel does this matters
9:14 9:15 that's about as close as us officials
9:15 9:18 will get to publicly criticizing a key
9:18 9:21 Ally over civilian deaths President
9:21 9:24 Biden will only say that Israel needs to
9:24 9:27 abide by international law that suggests
9:27 9:29 that he thinks that Israel isn't
9:29 9:30 following international law doesn't it
9:30 9:32 no we've been saying it since the very
9:32 9:34 beginning Nancy that that uh we want to
9:34 9:37 see our good friend and partner abide by
9:37 9:39 our shared commitments but with pressure
9:39 9:41 mounting to slow the death toll
9:41 9:43 President Biden did tell donors at a
9:43 9:46 fundraiser in Minnesota last night quote
9:46 9:49 I think we need a pause to give time to
9:49 9:52 get the prisoners
9:52 9:55 out with two major allies now at War the
9:55 9:57 White House is asking Congress for $4
9:57 10:00 billion in eer emergency funding for
10:00 10:03 Israel 61 billion for Ukraine and 9
10:03 10:06 billion for humanitarian assistance but
10:06 10:08 the bill proposed by the new Republican
10:08 10:11 speaker Mike Johnson strips out the
10:11 10:14 humanitarian and Ukraine funding and
10:14 10:18 cuts $4 billion from the IRS and that
10:18 10:19 was the easiest and largest pile of
10:19 10:21 money that's sitting there for us to be
10:21 10:22 able to pay for this immediate
10:22 10:24 obligation the Congressional budget
10:24 10:26 office projected this week that
10:26 10:28 shrinking the IRS would actually add to
10:28 10:31 the deficit this is Republicans playing
10:31 10:34 politics with Aid to Israel that bill
10:34 10:36 may have just passed the house a short
10:36 10:37 time ago but the White House has
10:37 10:39 threatened a veto and the bill has been
10:39 10:42 declared Dead on Arrival in the Senate
10:42 10:43 where many Democrats and many
10:43 10:46 Republicans want to send funding to both
10:46 10:49 Israel and Ukraine right away how
10:49 10:51 they'll get there Nora is very unclear
10:51 10:53 right now all right Nancy with all those
10:53 10:54 important updates from the White House
10:54 10:56 thank you and now to a stunning
10:56 10:58 development today in the deadly police
10:58 11:01 beating of Ty Nichols a former Memphis
11:01 11:03 officer one of CH five I should say
11:03 11:05 charged in the case changed his plea to
11:05 11:07 guilty today on federal charges and
11:07 11:10 intends to do the same on state charges
11:10 11:12 we get the details now from cbs's Elise
11:12 11:17 Preston this was just one of
11:17 11:20 many that I hope will come in our favor
11:20 11:22 Tyree nichols's mother roon Wells spoke
11:22 11:25 outside the federal courthouse today
11:25 11:27 just minutes after watching former
11:27 11:29 Memphis police officer Desmond Mills
11:29 11:31 plead guilty and the beating death of
11:31 11:34 her son during a police traffic stop
11:34 11:35 this was really the first time I
11:35 11:38 actually heard somebody tell and say
11:38 11:41 what they actually did to my son her son
11:41 11:45 died January 10th 3 days after he was
11:45 11:47 repeatedly kicked and punched by Mills
11:47 11:49 and four other Memphis police officers
11:49 11:52 which was caught on police body camps
11:52 11:54 they were all part of the now disbanded
11:54 11:57 scorpion Street crime unit in September
11:57 11:59 a Federal grand jury indicted all all
11:59 12:01 five officers on four counts which
12:01 12:03 carried a life sentence and they are all
12:03 12:06 facing State charges but today Mills
12:06 12:08 agreed to plead guilty to two counts
12:08 12:10 excessive force and conspiracy to
12:10 12:13 witness tampering he is now facing 15
12:13 12:16 years he is fully cooperating and will
12:16 12:18 uh we expect him to continue to fully
12:18 12:20 cooperate answering all questions
12:20 12:22 truthfully as part of the plea agreement
12:22 12:24 Mills is also expected to plead guilty
12:24 12:27 to related State charges the pressure
12:27 12:30 that is now put on the other four is
12:30 12:34 really huge so one can anticipate that
12:34 12:37 any of the four will try to be the
12:37 12:40 second one in line Elise Preston CBS
12:40 12:43 News Los Angeles not in New York where
12:43 12:45 former president Donald Trump's second
12:45 12:47 oldest son Eric Trump took the stand
12:47 12:49 today in the Trump organization's civil
12:49 12:52 fraud trial the younger Trump testified
12:52 12:53 that he had little knowledge of his
12:53 12:55 father's financial statements despite
12:55 12:57 being the company's vice president the
12:57 12:59 trumps are accused of of exaggerating
12:59 13:01 the value of their properties as much as
13:01 13:04 $2 billion in one year the former
13:04 13:06 president calls the case a Witch Hunt he
13:06 13:08 and his daughter Ivanka are set to
13:08 13:11 testify next week Senate Republicans
13:11 13:14 have erupted in Anger over Senator Tommy
13:14 13:16 tuberville's hold on Military promotions
13:16 13:19 that could endanger National Security
13:19 13:21 today they did find a workaround to
13:21 13:23 approve three promotions including
13:23 13:25 Admiral Lisa franki who will be the new
13:25 13:27 chief of Naval operations making her the
13:27 13:30 first female member of The Joint Chiefs
13:30 13:32 of Staff CBS Scott McFarland with more
13:32 13:36 on the monthlong blockade hundreds of
13:36 13:38 top military positions remain in limbo
13:38 13:40 tonight held up by Alabama Republican
13:40 13:43 Tommy tuberville Who Rose to fame as
13:43 13:44 coach of Auburn University's football
13:44 13:46 team senator tuille says there's no risk
13:46 13:50 to the military there absolutely is risk
13:50 13:52 to the military and that's maybe because
13:52 13:54 he hasn't served in uniform tuberville
13:54 13:56 is blocking action on
13:56 13:59 376 nominees protest ing a Biden
13:59 14:01 Administration policy allowing service
14:01 14:03 members paid time off to travel out of
14:03 14:05 state for abortion Services why would
14:05 14:06 you punish them for something they've
14:06 14:09 got nothing to do with Wednesday night a
14:09 14:11 dam burst among his fellow Republicans
14:11 14:14 as tuberville stood and objected to 61
14:14 14:17 straight nominees object object with
14:17 14:19 that Madam president I object they claim
14:19 14:22 foreign adversaries could take advantage
14:22 14:24 of the dysfunction Xin ping is watching
14:24 14:25 this right now so is Putin they're
14:25 14:26 loving
14:26 14:29 it how dumb can we be man are you at
14:29 14:32 risk of weakening the military no as
14:32 14:34 I've told y all along if I thought there
14:34 14:36 was any problem with Readiness we
14:36 14:37 wouldn't be doing this the deputy
14:37 14:39 secretary of defense disagreed the hold
14:39 14:42 is unnecessary unprecedented and unsafe
14:42 14:44 and that it's bad for our military
14:44 14:46 tuberville is now being questioned about
14:46 14:48 Marine Corps commandant Eric Smith who
14:48 14:50 was forced to hold down two highlevel
14:50 14:52 positions because of the Senator's holds
14:52 14:54 and had an apparent heart attack last
14:54 14:56 weekend Smith had spoken about the
14:56 14:58 demanding nature of the job it is not
14:58 15:00 sustainable tuberville bristled at the
15:00 15:03 suggestion he was responsible this guy's
15:03 15:04 going to work 18 20 hours a day no
15:04 15:07 matter what that's what we do you know I
15:07 15:10 did that for years Senators managed to
15:10 15:11 work through tuberville's holds to
15:11 15:13 confirm those three senior military
15:13 15:15 leaders today but tuberville isn't
15:15 15:17 backing down next week Democrats
15:17 15:20 consider a true Rarity Nora changing
15:20 15:22 Senate rules to break the
15:22 15:25 blockade this is such an important story
15:25 15:27 Scott mcfar thank you so much in
15:27 15:29 tonight's eye on America we take a look
15:29 15:31 at a pen that's been used by the US
15:31 15:33 military in every conflict Zone on Earth
15:33 15:36 for five decades cbs's Janet shamle and
15:36 15:38 got a rare look at what really makes
15:38 15:40 these pens so extraordinary it's the
15:40 15:42 people who make
15:42 15:45 them more than four million pens roll
15:45 15:47 off the assembly line in this North
15:47 15:50 Carolina manufacturing plant every
15:50 15:53 year but the people who make them have
15:53 15:56 never seen them and don't use them I
15:56 16:00 think that this place
16:00 16:02 saved me it brought me back Stephanie
16:02 16:05 sers like most here is legally
16:05 16:07 blind working for the national
16:07 16:09 Industries for the blind which Inked a
16:09 16:11 deal to produce the skillcraft brand
16:11 16:14 pens for the government 55 years ago and
16:14 16:17 has been doing so s coming here you see
16:17 16:20 what people are capable of and I saw
16:20 16:22 that the world was open to me Richard
