0:57 1:00 Battleground polls are showing tonight
1:00 1:02 and ahead of our GOP Presidential debate
1:02 1:05 here in Miami our NBC News broadcast
1:05 1:07 exclusive Kim Reynolds the governor of
1:07 1:10 all important Iowa throwing her support
1:10 1:13 behind Ron de santz can it shake up the
1:13 1:16 race this is NBC Nightly News with
1:16 1:18 Lester
1:18 1:20 Hol good evening everyone Republican
1:20 1:22 front runner Donald Trump was Center
1:22 1:24 Stage today in Manhattan as the rest of
1:24 1:27 the field readies to debate in Miami he
1:27 1:29 was the center of an extraordinary legal
1:29 1:32 and political moment taking the witness
1:32 1:34 stand at his civil fraud trial his
1:34 1:36 testimony framed by flashes of anger
1:36 1:39 Defiance and disdain for the process
1:39 1:41 defending himself against allegations he
1:41 1:44 inflated the valuation of his assets to
1:44 1:46 get more favorable treatment on bank
1:46 1:49 loans it comes one year before the 2024
1:49 1:52 presidential election with Mr Trump The
1:52 1:54 Leader by a wide margin today in court
1:54 1:56 Mr Trump again attacked the trial as
1:56 1:59 election interference and called it
1:59 2:01 ridiculous at one point the judge
2:01 2:04 telling Mr Trump's lawyer to control him
2:04 2:06 saying this isn't a political rally none
2:06 2:09 of it seems to be having an effect on Mr
2:09 2:11 Trump's political Fortune so far new
2:11 2:13 polling showing him leading President
2:13 2:16 Biden in five key Battleground States
2:16 2:18 we'll get to that in a moment but first
2:18 2:21 senior legal correspondent Laura Jarrett
2:21 2:24 on the former President's Day in
2:24 2:26 court tonight a combat of Donald Trump
2:26 2:28 testifying for hours in a Manhattan
2:28 2:31 courtroom with his real estate Empire on
2:31 2:34 the line This Tri is ridiculous Mr Trump
2:34 2:36 showing flashes of anger as he sparred
2:36 2:38 with the judge and the New York attorney
2:38 2:39 general's office brushing off
2:39 2:41 accusations that he doctored financial
2:41 2:43 statements to inflate the value of some
2:43 2:46 of his most well-known properties like
2:46 2:49 Mara Lago Trump Tower and 40 Wall Street
2:49 2:51 all to defraud Banks and lenders but at
2:51 2:54 the end of the day the only thing that
2:54 2:57 matters are the facts and the
2:57 3:00 numbers and numbers my friend
3:00 3:03 don't lie already found liable for fraud
3:03 3:05 the former president now trying to fend
3:05 3:08 off a $250 million penalty growing
3:08 3:10 heated today when pressed about whether
3:10 3:13 he overvalued assets found in the Trump
3:13 3:15 organization's annual financial
3:15 3:17 statements his face turning red raising
3:17 3:20 his voice pointing directly at the judge
3:20 3:23 seated inches away yelling he called me
3:23 3:25 a fraud and he didn't know anything
3:25 3:27 about me a reference to the judge's
3:27 3:29 pre-trial decision that ruled in the
3:29 3:31 state favor also going after the
3:31 3:34 Attorney General herself watching on in
3:34 3:36 the courtroom Mr Trump calling her a
3:36 3:39 political hack I will not be bullied I
3:39 3:41 will not be harassed this case will go
3:41 3:43 on and Mr Trump did make some
3:43 3:46 concessions admitting today he probably
3:46 3:48 saw some of the disputed financial
3:48 3:49 statements that went to Banks and
3:49 3:51 lenders while repeatedly dismissing them
3:51 3:54 as not important because they included
3:54 3:56 certain disclaimers saying today that
3:56 3:59 his net worth is actually far greater
3:59 4:00 than what's reflect Ed in his financial
4:00 4:02 statements touting the value of the
4:02 4:05 Trump brand the numbers are much greater
4:05 4:07 than on the financial statement and
4:07 4:08 we've already proven that they said
4:08 4:11 marago is worth $18 million Maro is
4:11 4:14 worth anywhere from probably 50 to 100
4:14 4:16 times more than that the judge's
4:16 4:18 patients tested at times by that same
4:18 4:20 rhetoric on the witness stand calling
4:20 4:22 parts of Mr Trump's testimony irrelevant
4:22 4:25 and rambling warning the Republican
4:25 4:27 front runner this is not a political
4:27 4:30 rally and Laura Mr Trump's lawyers also
4:30 4:34 signaling today they plan to ask for a
4:34 4:36 mistrial that's right Lester Mr Trump's
4:36 4:38 defense attorneys believing that the
4:38 4:40 judge and his law clerk are somehow
4:40 4:42 biased against him saying that they
4:42 4:44 intend to file that mistrial motion soon
4:44 4:46 but for now Lester this case moves
4:46 4:48 forward with a vonka trump set to
4:48 4:51 testify Wednesday morning Lester all
4:51 4:52 right Laura thanks very much I want to
4:52 4:54 turn to the moderator of Meet the Press
4:54 4:55 Kristen Welker Kristen what's the
4:55 4:57 political Fallout do we even know at
4:57 4:59 this point of a former president on the
4:59 5:01 witness then it's a great question and
5:01 5:03 that's what's so stunning Lester this is
5:03 5:05 the first time in more than a hundred
5:05 5:07 years that an ex-president has testified
5:07 5:10 in court in his own defense still one
5:10 5:11 Trump Ally tells me it's a chance for
5:11 5:14 him to fundraise and to make his case to
5:14 5:16 his supporters that the trial is a part
5:16 5:18 of a broader political persecution
5:18 5:19 despite the fact that there's no
5:19 5:22 evidence of that Mr Trump has a
5:22 5:24 commanding lead in the primary and his
5:24 5:26 legal battles so far have only
5:26 5:28 emboldened him but Lester it could be a
5:28 5:29 different story in a general election
5:29 5:31 where Independence and moderate
5:31 5:33 Republicans could be turned off by all
5:33 5:34 of these legal battles let's talk for a
5:34 5:36 moment about the sitting president
5:36 5:38 President Biden right now some bad poll
5:38 5:40 numbers oh that's for sure Democrats are
5:40 5:41 looking at this the latest New York
5:41 5:44 Times Sienna College poll shows that
5:44 5:46 President Biden is trailing Trump in
5:46 5:47 five out of six swing states that Mr
5:47 5:50 Biden won in 2020 with Mr Trump getting
5:50 5:52 higher marks on the economy and all of
5:52 5:55 them now some Democrats say look they're
5:55 5:57 not panicking it's too early the
5:57 5:58 election is still a year out and former
5:58 6:01 president Obama Obama trailed in 2011
6:01 6:03 before defeating Mitt Romney but I spoke
6:03 6:05 to multiple Democrats today who say they
6:05 6:08 are deeply concerned one calling it a
6:08 6:11 five alarm fire and former top Obama
6:11 6:13 adviser David Axelrod put it this way
6:13 6:15 quote if he continues to run he will be
6:15 6:17 the nominee of the democratic party what
6:17 6:19 he needs to decide is whether that is
6:19 6:22 wise whether it's in his best interest
6:22 6:24 or the country so high stakes here one
6:24 6:26 year to go Christen thanks very much
6:26 6:28 let's get now to the deepening Israeli
6:28 6:30 military campaign in G AA the death toll
6:30 6:33 is rising now one month after Hamas
6:33 6:36 terrorists killed 1,400 Israelis Chief
6:36 6:38 foreign correspondent Richard angle has
6:38 6:40 late
6:40 6:42 details Israeli tanks and troops have
6:42 6:45 encircled Gaza City and are expected to
6:45 6:48 soon enter the urban
6:48 6:51 areas the Hamas run Health Ministry in
6:51 6:54 Gaza says the death toll has pass 10,000
6:54 6:56 and that could rise with an advance into
6:56 7:00 Gaza City which is full of Hamas tunnels
7:00 7:02 Fighters and several hundred th000
7:02 7:05 Palestinian civilians secretary blinkin
7:05 7:07 is pushing Israel to pause but there's
7:07 7:09 no sign that's
7:09 7:11 coming as anger in the Middle East
7:11 7:15 against the US Israel's main backer is
7:15 7:18 growing before blinkin arrived in Turkey
7:18 7:20 protesters tried to storm a NATO base
7:20 7:23 housing American troops a second
7:23 7:26 American aircraft carrier strike group
7:26 7:28 arrived in the region in a warning to
7:28 7:31 Iran and its proxies as us officials
7:31 7:33 tell NBC news that recent attacks by
7:33 7:36 Iranian backed militias have injured at
7:36 7:39 least 45 Americans on bases in Iraq and
7:39 7:42 Syria their Pace increasing with 10
7:42 7:45 attacks since Thursday none of the
7:45 7:47 injuries were described as
7:47 7:49 life-threatening in Gaza Israel says it
7:49 7:52 has left open a corridor for civilians
7:52 7:55 to escape from the north to the South
7:55 7:57 but it's not safe in the South either
7:57 7:59 our crew followed an ambulance to to a
7:59 8:01 group of buildings just hit Witnesses
8:01 8:04 Say by an Israeli strike in Han Yunis a
8:04 8:07 boy is under the rubble he's trapped
8:07 8:09 head down and struggling to
8:09 8:12 breathe over several hours rescue
8:12 8:15 workers managed to get him oxygen remov
8:15 8:19 debris and turn him over finally they
8:19 8:19 pull him
8:19 8:23 out he's rolled onto a stretcher and
8:23 8:25 taken to an ambulance where we learn his
8:25 8:28 name 13-year-old Muhammad Shakura
8:28 8:30 doctors say his leg leg and hips are
8:30 8:33 broken Witnesses say at least six others
8:33 8:36 were killed in the same strike yel sham
8:36 8:40 is also trapped in Gaza she's 3 years
8:40 8:42 old and was kidnapped with her family by
8:42 8:46 Hamas on October 7th from kibuts B I met
8:46 8:47 her
8:47 8:49 uncle are all these people from your
8:49 8:53 family this is my family this is my
8:53 8:54 mother
8:54 8:57 shashan and this is my sister ADI and
8:57 9:00 her husband tal and both their children
9:00 9:03 na is 8 years old and Y we call her YULA
9:03 9:06 is only 3 years old we're talking about
9:06 9:08 a little girl who was never away from
9:08 9:11 her mother they are always together they
9:11 9:13 sleep together and I don't even know if
9:13 9:16 ad is hugging her now we don't know if
9:16 9:18 they have food we don't know if they
9:18 9:20 have water we don't know where they are
9:20 9:22 we don't know if they're together I
9:22 9:24 can't think about what's happening in
9:24 9:27 Gaza because it it breaks my heart all I
9:27 9:29 can think about is I want my family back
9:29 9:31 I want to know they're
9:31 9:34 alive Richard with so many dead in this
9:34 9:36 war already it looks like it could grow
9:36 9:39 dramatically
9:39 9:41 worse as Israeli troops start pushing
9:41 9:43 deeper into Gaza City they'll be
9:43 9:46 fighting on foot clearing buildings
9:46 9:47 they'll be using a lot of cover fire to
9:47 9:49 be dangerous for them lethal for
9:49 9:52 everyone around so casualties almost
9:52 9:55 certainly will go up Richard angle thank
9:55 9:57 you a key Target of the Israeli military
9:57 10:00 is hamas's vast Network of tunnels in
10:00 10:02 Gaza rap Sanchez was able to accompany
10:02 10:05 an IDF unit inside
10:05 10:09 Gaza several miles inside Gaza Israeli
10:09 10:12 forces are on high alert at first it's
10:12 10:14 not clear why nothing in this devastated
10:14 10:16 landscape looks like it could challenge
10:16 10:17 their overwhelming
10:17 10:20 Firepower but for Israeli troops the
10:20 10:22 threat is coming from
10:22 10:25 below squads of Hamas Fighters bursting
10:25 10:28 out of tunnels to mount ambushes like
10:28 10:31 this coming out they shooting you going
10:31 10:33 back to the tunnel and then running to
10:33 10:36 another tunnels NBC News was granted
10:36 10:39 rare access inside Gaza by the Israeli
10:39 10:42 Army following combat engineers tasked
10:42 10:44 with blocking the tunnels and stopping
10:44 10:46 the attacks as a condition of joining
10:46 10:49 them we agreed to blur some faces and to
10:49 10:51 show Israel's military sensors our raw
10:51 10:54 footage though not our final story
10:54 10:56 nearly 1 month after Hamas terrorists
10:56 10:58 stormed out of Gaza through this border
10:58 10:59 fence
10:59 11:01 we joined a column of Israeli troops
11:01 11:04 heading the other way our first stop is
11:04 11:07 one of the only houses in the area Still
11:07 11:10 Standing the family kitchen is abandoned
11:10 11:13 but the backyard holds a secret this is
11:13 11:15 the entrance to one of dozens of tunnels
11:15 11:18 theyve found in this area they say it's
11:18 11:21 about 15 yard deep that Hamas Fighters
11:21 11:23 popped out to Ambush them from it and
11:23 11:24 that their mission is to destroy this
11:24 11:27 tunnel and all the others across Gaza
11:27 11:30 it's no easy task Israel says there's a
11:30 11:32 vast network of tunnels concealed
11:32 11:35 beneath civilian areas they now hide
11:35 11:37 under schools and under hospitals
11:37 11:40 because they they know that we as the
11:40 11:42 Israeli Defense Forces we will not
11:42 11:44 attack hospital or we will not but this
11:44 11:47 war will be different Israel claims it
11:47 11:49 has no choice but to strike in densely
11:49 11:51 populated areas but the toll on
11:51 11:54 Palestinian civilians has been
11:54 11:57 devastated not far away major Mayan
11:57 11:59 Mulla leads us through the ruins of the
11:59 12:02 beach resort we found out three tunnels
12:02 12:04 that connected to each other their
12:04 12:06 solution is
12:06 12:10 simple graffiti here reads return the
12:10 12:13 hostages every tunnel a possible sight
12:13 12:15 of captivity have you seen any sign of
12:15 12:19 the hostages no unfortunately not yet a
12:19 12:21 search that continues ever deeper into
12:21 12:25 the strip Raph Sanchez NBC News Northern
12:25 12:28 Gaza Justus in tonight the verdict for a
12:28 12:30 Colorado police officer in the second
12:30 12:33 trial over the 2019 death of Elijah mlan
12:33 12:36 after one day of deliberation let's get
12:36 12:38 right to Steve Patterson Steve what
12:38 12:40 happened in the courtroom and Lester a
12:40 12:42 Colorado Jury has found Aurora police
12:42 12:44 officer Nathan Woodyard not guilty of
12:44 12:46 Reckless manslaughter and criminally
12:46 12:48 negligent homicide in the death of
12:48 12:50 Elijah mlan prosecutors argued that
12:50 12:52 Woodyard put the 23-year-old unarmed man
12:52 12:54 in a neck hold and then failed to
12:54 12:56 provide proper follow-up care while he
12:56 12:58 was detained and unable to breathe but
12:58 13:01 jurors cided with the defense's argument
13:01 13:02 that he did what he was trained to do
13:02 13:05 after the hold and relied on paramedics
13:05 13:07 who administered camine mlan died in
13:07 13:09 2019 after being stopped by police while
13:09 13:12 walking from a convenience store home
13:12 13:15 sparking Nationwide protests two other
13:15 13:17 officers were also charged one acquitted
13:17 13:18 the other found guilty of criminally
13:18 13:21 negligent homicide two paramedics were
13:21 13:23 also charged in McLean's death their
13:23 13:27 trial is slid for November Lester all
13:27 13:29 right Steve Patterson thank you a
13:29 13:31 surprised guilty plea tied to the mass
13:31 13:33 shooting at a Fourth of July parade in
13:33 13:36 Highland Park Illinois Robert Creo Jr
13:36 13:38 the father of the alleged gunman pleaded
13:38 13:41 guilty to misdemeanor Reckless conduct
13:41 13:43 he admitted he signed his son's
13:43 13:46 application for a firearm owner's ID
13:46 13:48 card knowing he had expressed suicidal
13:48 13:51 and violent thoughts investigators say
13:51 13:54 the son used that card to buy guns used
13:54 13:57 to murder seven people in 60 seconds
13:57 13:59 almost 4 months after Hollywood when
13:59 14:01 actors went on strike the Studios have
14:01 14:03 given them a final offer what the actors
14:03 14:08 Union is saying in response tonight
14:08 14:11 next just in tonight's sag after
14:11 14:14 responding to what it calls the Studio's
14:14 14:16 final offer to end the actor strike amid
14:16 14:18 some troubling signs at the fall box
14:18 14:22 office we get more from Miguel
14:22 14:25 aler it's the Hollywood Cliffhanger
14:25 14:27 neither side wanted tonight as the actor
14:27 14:31 strike plays out on its 116th day their
14:31 14:33 Union sag Afra is countering several
14:33 14:36 points to what it says the studios call
14:36 14:39 their last best and final offer the dire
14:39 14:42 warning perhaps the last
14:42 14:44 chance to salvage the start of the new
14:44 14:47 2024 television season and the critical
14:47 14:50 rollout of Blockbuster films this has
14:50 14:52 been a battle for the power and
14:52 14:54 direction of Hollywood for not just the
14:54 14:56 next threeyear contract that sag AF are
14:56 14:58 going to sign but perhaps a generation
14:58 15:00 still at odds over issues like streaming
15:00 15:03 residuals The Guild says it's unwilling
15:03 15:05 to waver over better job protection
15:05 15:08 against artificial intelligence it's
15:08 15:09 been a fight it's been a struggle the
15:09 15:12 dramatic Showdown offscreen comes amid
15:12 15:15 troubling numbers on the big screen with
15:15 15:17 the roll out of Blockbusters like Dune 2
15:17 15:19 previously scheduled for this weekend
15:19 15:22 now delayed the box office just had one
15:22 15:25 of its worst showings this year grossing
15:25 15:28 just $63 million they've had uh several
15:28 15:31 years are making a lot of profit and
15:31 15:33 it's time to call it even costing
15:33 15:35 California's economy an estimated $7
15:35 15:38 billion tens of thousands of jobs have
15:38 15:41 been lost since May and now another plot
15:41 15:44 twist will the last best and final offer
15:44 15:47 be enough for a Hollywood ending Miguel
15:47 15:51 aler NBC News Los Angeles and coming up

16:12 16:14 getting a major boost as Iowa's Governor
16:14 16:17 makes a rare endorsement both spoke with
16:17 16:18 Dasha
16:18 16:21 Burns tonight Governor Kim Reynolds
16:21 16:23 explaining why she's breaking with the
16:23 16:25 Iowa tradition of staying neutral and
16:25 16:28 endorsing Ronda santz I just felt like I
16:28 16:30 couldn't on the sidelines any longer we
16:30 16:33 have too much at stake I truly believe
16:33 16:35 that he is the right person to get this
16:35 16:37 country back on track it's arguably the
16:37 16:39 biggest endorsement of the primary and
16:39 16:41 much needed win for the DeSantis
16:41 16:43 Campaign which has invested significant
16:43 16:45 time and resources here this one's
16:45 16:48 obviously very meaningful because Kim
16:48 16:50 has proven to be a great leader that
16:50 16:52 Iowans love with two months to go former
16:52 16:54 president Trump maintains a dominant
16:54 16:56 27-point lead among likely Iowa caucus
16:56 16:58 goers with the santis and Nikki Haley
16:58 17:00 tied for a second for those who
17:00 17:02 criticize you and say why are you
17:02 17:04 endorsing a guy who's been slipping in
17:04 17:08 the polls Trump is 30 points ahead what
17:08 17:10 do you say to those critics I don't base
17:10 17:12 my decision on polls I take a look at
17:12 17:14 who I believe is the right person for
17:14 17:17 the right job I believe that Ron is the
17:17 17:18 right person for the right job and I
17:18 17:20 believe he's going to win do you worry
17:20 17:22 about the risk that she's taking by
17:22 17:25 endorsing you no I I don't I mean first
17:25 17:27 of all I respect the fact that that's
17:27 17:28 not her calculation which is rare
17:28 17:30 amongst elected officials I've had
17:30 17:32 people come to me and say you know that
17:32 17:33 they endorsed him because of the threats
17:33 17:35 and everything like that if you can look
17:35 17:36 in the mirror and say you did what you
17:36 17:38 think is right for the right reasons
17:38 17:39 then just let the chips fall where they
17:39 17:41 may Mr Trump was quick to attack
17:41 17:43 Governor Reynolds for her endorsement
17:43 17:45 calling her America's most unpopular
17:45 17:47 Governor what is your relationship like
17:47 17:49 now with the former president well you
17:49 17:51 know I assume it's it's well I don't
17:51 17:52 know I really can't tell you that's
17:52 17:54 probably a question for him have you
17:54 17:57 spoken with him recently no I haven't
17:57 17:58 when's the last time probably probably
17:58 18:00 the last time he called to ask if I
18:00 18:01 would endorse him and I said I wasn't at
18:01 18:03 this point the question now of her
18:03 18:05 endorsement of to Sanz will make a
18:05 18:06 difference I just hope that it'll help
18:06 18:08 persuade some of those voters to take a
18:08 18:11 look at them closer does it impact my
18:11 18:14 vote I don't know for sure at this point
18:14 18:18 he's been on my radar so I maybe I'll
18:18 18:20 feel like I know a little bit more after
18:20 18:22 the debate do you believe Trump can't
18:22 18:24 win yeah I believe he can't win and I
18:24 18:27 believe Ron can if Dan santis wants to
18:27 18:28 prove Trump as beatable he'll have to do
